Gran Turismo 6 was released worldwide on December 6, 2013 for the Playstation 3. Developed by Polyphony Digital, it’s the 6th major release and 12th game overall to carry the GT name.
It was originally revealed in interviews building up to the launch of Gran Turismo 5. In summer 2010, Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that karts were originally slated to appear in GT6, but jumped to the earlier game after information leaked to the public. In October 2010, Yamauchi admitted in an Autoweek interview that development of Gran Turismo 6 is already underway, but that it was too early to talk about it.
It was confirmed by Yamauchi in November 2011, and works were spotted soon after photographing and scanning the Mount Panorama track in Australia.
A long-term partnership with the Ayrton Senna Institute was announced on October 24, 2013.
