There’s big news for Xbox and PlayStation sim racers, as Rennsport announce console releases with Cross-Play for 2025. Which means PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S drivers will be able to compete against each other, and there will also be cross-platform progression across all three systems, synched with your Rennsport profile and app.
That’s big news for console racers, as until now the main choices have been either Forza or Gran Turismo depending on your system, or Assetto Corsa Competizione as a more realistic sim. But one key difference is that Rennsport is currently free-to-play with possible in-game purchases coming in the future. If that’s the same for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, it means a lot of people will be able to discover realistic sim racing for the first time at no cost, with the potential to massively ramp up player numbers and awareness for Rennsport and the hobby at the same time.

The console launches are planned for later in 2025, at the same time that Rennsport Version 1.0 is released for the PC and it exits Steam Early Access. The pricing model for PC and consoles hasn’t been officially confirmed since the Xbox and PlayStation releases were announced, but the previous description as free-to-play for the PC hasn’t been changed yet. Free to play doesn’t guarantee dominance (e.g. RaceRoom), but on consoles without much competition, it could have a major impact.
One reason why things might be altered is that the console versions will be published via Nacon and their new dedicated racing division, which also includes the upcoming Endurance Motorsport Series and their Revosim range of sim racing hardware.
“We’re delighted to be adding RENNSPORT to our console catalog,” says Sébastien Waxin, Head of Racing at NACON. This great upcoming simulation is part of our plan to develop NACON’s racing division, and to offer a wide range of games to satisfy all types of gamers, including drivers eager to compete on some of the most exciting circuits in the world.”
Developed with Unreal Engine 5, Rennsport uses a mix of custom code with a licenced physics processing system from Image Space Inc, with the isiMotor engine used by sims and games including rFactor 2, Automobilista, RaceRoom and more.
Rennsport currently has a relatively small roster of cars and circuits available, but became more well-known due to the ESL R1 esports series.
In addition to the news of the console releases and cross-play/cross-progession, Rennsport has also received a substantial update, reworking tyres and physics for the GT3 class and BMW M2 CS Racing, updating the user interface and more.
