If you haven’t jumped onto the latest installment in the official Formula One franchise, you might be able to play for free with EA Sports F1 24 out now on EA Play and GamePass tiers.
Launched in May 2024, the recent D.I.C.E award winner essentially replaces F1 22 on both subscription services. And it suggests an announcement for the 2025 edition will be coming fairly soon, in preparation for a release date in May or June, especially as all the liveries for the coming season have now been unveiled at F1 75 Live, in preparation for the 75th anniversary season of F1.
Codemasters and Electronic Arts currently hold the official licence until 2025, with a further option for 2026 and 2027 subject to Codemasters achieving certain performance thresholds, which seems likely considering they’ve been developing titles since 2009, but could be a slight worry given the premature end of the official F1 Manager series.

In any case, F1 24 is still available as a standalone title for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S retailing at full price. So the cost of an EA Play subscription at £5.99 for a month, or the required PC and UItimate GamePass tiers for £9.99 or £14.99 could be a substantial saving if you just want to try things out for a while. One slight irritation with EA games on PC via GamePass is that Xbox achievements aren’t available.
F1 24 introduced an all-new career mode, along with a new dynamic handling physics model and the challenge career for competitive events and challenges voted on via social media and EA Sports Racenet app, along with a range of other tweaks, changes and improvements. The handling launched to a mixed reception, but the benefit of jumping in now is that you benefit from eight months of updates and improvements. which is handy.
F1 2024 is available for the PC at £59.99 for the Standard Edition or £79.99 for the Champions Edition on Steam, Epic Games Store and the EA App. For the PlayStation 4 and 5, it’s £69.99 for the Standard Edition on the PlayStation Store, or £89.99 for the Champions Edition on the PlayStation Store. And the same prices apply for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with the Standard Edition and Champions Edition Microsoft Store listings. It’s also now available on EA Play, and PC or UltimateGamePass subscriptions.
