Released in February 2024, it seems a lot of people have been tempted by a driving survival adventure game, as Pacific Drive sells 1 million copies ahead of a big update.
Developed by indie outfit Ironwood Studios, the team of less than 20 people has followed up their original launch with a trio of free content updates and four cosmetic DLC packs so far, along with regularly monthly patches and releases to add more features and fix remaining bugs.
Selling a million copies is an impressive endorsement for most games that don’t come from an established franchise. But Pacific Drive has also received multiple awards and nominations, and the rights have now been acquired for a potential TV show to appear in the future, which could certainly be really interesting. You’d also imagine that if it comes to Xbox consoles at some point, those sales figures will increase further.

New games modes include the Iron Wagon option, which was introduced in September 2024 and means a failed run through the game will delete your save file.
Pacific Drive is a first-person survival game with your car being your only companion, and means of exploring, as you restore, repair, and upgrade it in your garage home base. And it’ll take some use as you travel through the Olympic Exclusion Zone, an abandoned research site in the Pacific Northwest of America.
The most recent content release was the Trips and Treasures update in November 2024, which coincided with upgrading the game to Unreal Engine 4, and added 23 new cosmetic items which can be displayed in your garage. Along with some new anomalous activities out in the zone.
Pacific Drive is available for the PC and PlayStation 5 via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the PlayStation Store. And you can keep up with all the latest Pacific Drive news, updates and more, here.
