We’ve seen teasers for a while, but we know now an off-road adventure game will be arriving soon with Over The Hill revealed by Funselektor and Strelka Games. Officially the title is all lower case, but ‘over the hill’ looks terrible in headlines.
It’s a free-roaming offroad exploration game which uses a similar minimalist art style to Art Of Rally, but this time you can head out across summer meadows, mountain ranges and various other biomes and terrains. You’ll need to suitably equip your vehicle for exploration, and the environment will change with different weather, along with a day-and-night cycle. And those vehicles will be iconic off-roaders from the 1960s to the 1980s. Which would cover the likes of the Land Rover Defender, the Chevrolet Blazer, the Ford Bronco, International Scout and Jeep CJ-7, to name just a few examples.

Obviously it looks cute, but you won’t have to enjoy it alone as you can explore in co-op with a friend as you discover portals which will link environments and new areas together, along with hidden gems, objectives and challenges. There’s also terrain deformation to let you get stuck in mud, which is always fun.
Over The Hill Revealed By Funselektor And Strelka Games
“Having developed several games about motorsport, we wanted to go off-track by offering players a vast world to lose themselves at a slower pace. In a way, this game is similar to the experience I’ve had journeying across North America in my trusty camper van. There’s something special about being in the wilderness in the middle of nowhere, from the peace, the sounds of nature and less distraction from the civilized world. I hope this game can really drive that feeling home.” Dune Casu, Funselektor founder.
Art of Rally did include some discovery elements in driving the roads to find hidden letters, but Over The Hill takes this a lot further by combining elements of the popular MudRunner/SnowRunner off-road type games. And having co-op (hopefully split-screen and cross-play in the future) for up to four players will add a lot of fun as I’ve found off-roading is way better with online friends or family members sat next to me. Especially when you need some help to get out of a ravine or river.
It’s the fourth title from Funselektor, following Absolute Drift and Art of Rally, and the second collaboration with Strelka Games, coming after the recent release of miminalist motorsport managment game Golden Lap.
