If you’ve run out of arcade racing games, then there’s a new option as Junkyard Rush Racing is released for the PC via Steam. Apparently it’s inspired by the spirit of the “Dukes of Hazzard”, although it’s not clear whether that’s the 20-year-old film, or the 40-year-old TV show.
It’s developed by Hungarian developers isTOM Games, who started out making mobile apps and games, and looks identical to their previous Turbo Boost Racing title, which was released for the Switch in September 2024.
Along with the visuals, the details are also the same, with 16 upgradeable and customisable vehicles, 12 tracks and the option to race against the AI in single races or tournaments, along with local split-screen multiplayer and time trials.
The fact that the game details mention the choice of Easy, Medium and Hard modes, or being able to change your view from behind the car to the bonnet cam (and they’re referred to as 3rd person, FPS and close up mode), is a bit worrying, as it suggests there’s not much else to talk about beyond the limited nibro booster you can use for a speed boost.
And that’s about your lot. A simplistic racing game isn’t necessarily a bad one, so Junkyard Rush Racing might be fun to play. But it’s hard to see how it will stand out from the many similar titles already available, even if it’s decent enough to be enjoyable. You can check out all of the arcade racing games we’ve previously covered, here.
Junkyard Rush Racing is available for the PC via Steam with a 15% launch discount until 27th December 2024. And Turbo Boost Racing can be found for the Switch via the Nintendo eShop.
