Older sim racers and fans of classic 1990s saloon racing will be overjoyed as RaceRoom adds two tracks the Super Touring DLC alongside a free update for December 2024.
Fans of British touring cars and similar series around the world will remember great racing in that era, and the Super Touring Cars DLC Pack includes five iconic cars, with reference to them being an initial release, suggesting more may come along in the future. The cars are:
- Audi A4
- BMW E36
- Honda Accord
- Volvo 850
- Volvo S40
Being old enough to have watched BTCC in those days, I’ll definitely be choosing to drive the Volvo 850 from 1995, which replaced the previous iconic Estate version. And it has to be in the livery of 1998 Swedish BTCC champion Rickard Rydell, who arrived in the series in 1994 with Volvo, and then took the titile in the later S40 model, along with winning the Super Touring Bathurst 1000 in the same year.
What other cars could be added later? Well, there’s the Alfa Romeo 155 TS, Ford Mondeo Ghia, Renault Laguna, Peugeot 405 Mi16 and Vauxhall Cavalier 16v which would complete all of the most iconic entries in 1995, for example. Although the grid also had a Toyota Carina E and a Mazda 323F. And there’s also the Nissan Primera GT from 1994, along with the later Vauxhall Vectra and Alfa Romeo 156.
RaceRoom has also released two more tracks for you to use with the new cars, with the modern Portuguese circuit of Estoril, and also Silverstone Classic based on the 1990s layout of the Northamptonshire venue.
It possible feels a little bit harsh to have to buy the Classic layout of Silverstone seperately (although that’s better than the Brands Hatch Indy and Grand Prix configurations being different DLC purchases), but the December 2024 RaceRoom update does include a free update to Monza, bringing the Italian track up to 2024 standards.
And considering the frantic nature of touring car racing, it’s also a good time for the free core update to include a first move towards dynamic circuits in RaceRoom with cars rejoining now brining grass, dirt or gravel back onto the racing surface with them.
