More than a decade ago, I wrote about how one game I’d love to see remade was overhead driving title Tranz Am, which required you to survive a barren wasteland. And while it might look a lot more hectic, I’m definitely intrigued by the top-down survival car combat game Driveloop due in 2025 for the PC via Steam.
Developed by indie studio Stunbyte, a new company apparently founded by industry veterans, their first title is a roguelike survivor-style driving experience which puts you in an art deco Steampunk car which can be upgraded through abilities, weapons or by recruiting new crew members.

And you’ll need them to drift, ram and shoot your way through hordes of mechanical enemies as you explore decaying cities including Berlin and Paris, before confronting massive boss battles.

The Unreal Engine 5 game promises that the balance of graphics and performance means that Driveloop will run smoothly even with thousands of enemies on the screen. Borja Fernandez at Stunbyte said: “Our passion for roguelikes and survivor-style games inspired us to explore fresh ground in a genre we love. Creating a game we genuinely wanted to play has been both challenging and incredibly rewarding.”
Along with your driving and combat skills, there’s also some strategies to employ as you choose upgrades and crew members to unlock the best combination for any particular challenge.
Driveloop is due to arrive on Steam as an Early Access release in 2025. There’s no word yet on pricing or how long it might stay in Early Access, but you’ll be able to keep up with all the latest information on Driveloop, here.
