After a fairly successful two years in Early Access, with a positive response and plenty of updates, Turbo Sliders Unlimited gets a full Steam Release. And there’s a 15% discount until September 26th, so you can pick it up for £10.87, or £16.80 for the Deluxe Edition, which bundles six paint customisation packs wth the game.
Developed by Finnish industry veteran Antti Mannisto, it includes both a variety of game modes and lots of modding options. So while you can race and hot lap, there are also modes including parkour, sumo, soccer, tag, capture-the-flag, team weapon battle, deathmatch and more, for up to 20 players.
Local splitscreen multiplayer is available for up to four players, along with the single player modes including campaigns, custom and quick games, with AI drivers. There are local and global leaderboards for the time trials and hotlapping modes, plus a range of replay and recording options. And you can create your own AI players, levels and vehicles, via the included editors, which can then be shared.
Along with hosting your own games, it’s also possible to even have your own dedicated servers with custom stats.
That definitely helps to stand apart from many other overhead racers like Circuit Superstars or Art of Rally, which are two of the best modern examples but don’t venture into modding and self-hosting to the same extent.
So while it’s an overhead racer inspired by classic titles, it’s also a race game sandbox for you to mess around with. And there’s a rich update history with monthly improvements for the last two years, so there’s probably more to come with the game only just reaching version 1.0.
Mannisto has more than 20 years experience working for developers including RedLynx, Remedy Entertainment and Ubisoft. “Having worked with great game designers for two decades, I’ve learned a lot from them, but there are always restrictions and things you would have liked to do differently. With TSU, I was free to push boundaries in ways no sane designer would have allowed.”
Turbo Sliders Unlimited is available for the PC via Steam. And you’ll be able to keep up with the latest Turbo Sliders Unlimited news, updates and more, here.
