Definitely one for fans of arcade racers with a certain cute style, cute arcade racer Victory Heat Rally is due in October for the PC and mobile, with a Nintendo Switch version launching at a slightly later date.
It’s been developed by Skydevilpalm, and published by Playtonic Friends, and will be available on mobile as part of the Crunchyroll Game Vault as well as for the PC via Steam on October 3rd, 2024. You can choose from 12 different drivers and cars to powerslide through the 2.5D world, either solo, or with up to 3 friends in local multiplater. There’s also a global leaderboard for the time trial mode.
The Victory Heat Rally World Tour mode features 12 different environments, with stages set in each location. And you can customise each vehicle with exchangeable performance parts and paint schemes.
And that’s about the information available, aside from the ‘high octane energy’ soundtrack with ‘banging beats and scorching guitar solos’.
Obviously it’s not a replacement for spending hours in your favourite sim racing title. But sometimes we all need to take a break and play something a bit less serious. And it might well appeal to younger potential racers of the future, especially with the local four-player mode.
There have been quite a few retro 1990s arcade racers in recent years, with the likes of Horizon Chase 2, New Star GP, Classic Sport Driving, Sunrise GP, Formula Retro Racing and Hotshot Racing to name but a few. As an older sim racer, none have really grabbed me the way I remember Lotus Turbo Challenge or Sega Rally achieving 30 or more years ago, but that may just be a sign of age more than anything else.
Victory Heat Rally will be available for the PC via Steam from October 3rd, 2024 and you can wishlist it now. It’ll also be free as part for mobile as part of Crunchroll Game Vault for mega and ultimate fan premium members, with a Nintendo Switch version to follow later. Prices for the PC and Switch have not been announced as yet.
