A decade since the original game was released, there’s now Turbo Dismount 2 announced for a 2024 release as a new kinetic racing physics sandbox for the PC, which is now listed on Steam for you to wishlist.
It’s developed by Secret Exit, a Finnish studio which also previously created the Zen Bound puzzle games, and now returns to the world of Mr Dismount, who now has multiple friends, along with various vehicles and game goals to try and complete.
And it’s got some really interesting features for a sandbox racer. Most notably, the animated bobblehead faces with custom photo support and live face support with webcams. Meaning you can see yourself and possibly friends reacting in the car beside you, as shown in the trailer. The original allowed you to place a static photo of a friend on Mr Dismount, so this takes it a fair way further.
Combine that with a replay system and recording options, and there’s some great opportunities for videos and live streaming.
Along with the options for photos and webcams, there’s also ‘immensely capable level editing tools in Unity’ with Steam Workshop support. Which should give a lot of ways for modders and other developers to get involved with creating plenty of additional content.
We’ll have to wait and find out whether the manual first person driving does include ‘AAA-level’ driving physics, but the origial still has a very positive rating on Steam from almost 5,000 reviews.
Turbo Dismount 2 will be available for the PC via Steam. A release date has not been announced beyond some time in 2024. In the meantime, the sandbox physics title with the best driving experience remains BeamNG, even without live webcams of you and your friends crashing into things.
