A new choice for the most popular category of sim racing will appear in September, as iRacing 2024 Season 4 will add the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO to the available car choices.
The sim has featured the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 since 2013, so it’s great to see the new model arrive, with the EVO version launched in the real world in 2023 on top, following the 720S GT3 in 2018. It was the first GT model designed and built in-house by McLaren Customer Racing, with a carbon fibre MonoCage II chassis, and a race-prepped M840T 4.0 litre twin turbo V8 engine.
Available as an upgrade for existing cars as well as a new purcahse, key improvements include the front bumper and splitter improving aerodynamics, along with a front bonnet gurney. Auxiliary lights have also been moved for better visibility in the dark, and the rear wing is taller and more easily adjustable.
Meanwhile the suspension now has new TTX40 Ohlins 4-way adjustable dampers, new front and rear upper wishbones, and fresh uprights with a new geometry in place to increase set-up options and tyre management.
The work in progress image was originally shared by IMSA team Pfaff Motorsports, which was then reposted by iRacing themselves, confirming the news. And suggesting the Pfaff cars might have been used to create the virtual versions.
iRacing isn’t the first sim racing title to feature the car. Assetto Corsa Competition did add it in May 2023 as part of a free update. Meanwhile RaceRoom added the original 720S GT3 back in 2021. But it’s great to see it arrive in iRacing.
