While futuristic prototypes and concept cars appear fairly regularly in sim racing, hardware tends to be focused on what professional racers are currently using. But that’s changed a bit with the futuristic Moza Vision GS wheel released as an idea of what you might find in a GT3 car in the future.
It makes sense that a lot of sim racers like using something as close to the real world as possible, especially when some wheels can be used in both a rig and real GT3 car. But there’s no reason that it has to be that way for everyone.
Most noticeable is the 2.85 inch circular display which not only functions as a touch screen using a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, but also remains horizontal at all times via a built-in gyroscope, which should make it much easier to view and use during races. You can swipe vertically or horizontally through 10 preset displays, or create your own and download the creations of other sim racers via the proprietary Moza UI customisation system. Obviously, the wheel also works with the existing Moza Pit House set-up platform.
You might have a problem using the touch screen with many of the popular sim racing gloves at the moment, but conductive materials and coatings have been used for years in other places, such as motorcycle, cycling, work and casual gloves. So it’ll probably become standard for sim racing clothing as well in the near future.
Along with the display, you also get a top-mounted RPM Indicator with 10 customisable LEDS which can also be switched to work with flag signals, along with eight customisable short-travel backlit RGB buttons on the front, two back buttons, a 7-way funky switch, universal joystick, three rotary encoders and two thumb encoders. All of which adds up to 72 programmable input signals, which should be plenty for most people.
The curved design of the new Moza Vision GS wheel also looks a little different, but the rest of the specs are what you might expect from a mid or high-end sim racing wheel. The 310mm wheel uses aerospace-grade aluminium alloy with a carbon fibre compostive front face plate and microfibre leather for the grips.
You get forged carbon fibre gear paddles, with lower clutch paddles which can switch between single and dual clutch modes, and then come with pre-installed silencer pads so your clicking will be less noticeable to anyone around you, or on stream.
The Moza Vision GS uses the all-aluminium Moza quick release system with wireless and conductive slip ring modes to work with all their wheel bases. Or you can connect it via the Moza univeral adaptor to work with wheel base from other manufacturers if you prefer.
You can order the new Moza Vission GS Wheel for €829.00 (£749.00 or $749.00) directly from the Moza website. Moza products are also available in the UK from resellers including Overclockers. And if you’re upgrading any part of your sim rig, you can find news of the latest wheels and pedals here, along with all other hardware including gearshifters, handbrakes, button boxes and more here, plus sim rigs themselves, here.
