Due for release at some point this year from Funselektor and Strelka Games, you can play the Golden Lap demo until June 17th, 2024, as part of the Steam Next Fest event.
The demo version of the minimalist motorsport management game includes both Quick Race and Career Modes. Set in a classic era of racing, you can either select a pre-built team, or take on a four-race mini championship with control over your racers, team budget, and sponsorship. And in both modes you get to tune the cars during qualifying and add upgrades between each race.
The demo has at least a few hours worth of gameplay, which should give you a good opportunity to decide whether you want to add Golden Lap to your Steam wishlist and pick it up on release. It’s worth keeping in mind that the current build is a beta version, so you may experience some issues such as unrealistic gaps between drivers, odd behaviour, and some balancing still needed for the overall gameplay.
I’m looking forward to trying out Golden Lap. As a fan of Funselektor’s previous games (Absolute Drift and Art of Rally), and management titles including dabbling with F1 Manager 2024 and Motorsport Manager, the idea of a minimalist approach takes me back to the likes of F1 Manager for the ZX Spectrum back in 1985. Especially when management sims can eat up a lot of time for you to make any progress.
The full release will allow you to pick one of 10 teams, and compete in 14-race seasons, with the need to make decisions, manage budgets and get top results.
You can find Golden Lap and the demo version on Steam for the PC. And keep up with the latest Golden Lap news, updates, DLC and more, here.
