There’s a new professional eSports championship starting soon, as iRacing and FIA launch the first F4 eSports global series.
It will take place over four events and eight rounds, starting in September 2024, and with a $25,000 prize pool, along with live broadcasts. Drivers can qualify for the F4 FIA Esports Global Championship by competing in the iRacing FIA F4 Regional Tour series during Season 3 of 2024, which will begin in the middle of June. The top 10 eligible drivers in each Regional Tour will be invited to take part in the Global Championship.
FIA Single-Seater Director, Nikolas Tombazis said: “I am delighted that the FIA is again joining forces with iRacing for the next phase of this highly innovative collaboration, taking FIA F4 Esports to a global stage following great success at the regional level. This latest step in our strong partnership aligns with our strategy to foster the growth and development of Esports and, in so doing, extend the appeal of our sport to fresh audiences, with the aim of doubling global participation in motor sport.”
Some of the regulations include that drivers need to live in the region they’ve used to qualify, so you can’t choose a potentially less competitive series unless you plan on moving country for the next few months. And the Global Championship will run fixed setups, with track selections for each event only announced 24 hours prior to each race.
The dates for the 2024 FIA F4 Esports Global Championship are September 14th, September 28th, October 12th and November 2nd, with each event including two races, starting at 6.30pm GMT.
“We couldn’t be more excited to work with the FIA to launch the FIA F4 eSports Global Championship,” said iRacing president Tony Gardner. “Both iRacing and the FIA are committed to helping aspiring racers break into real-world motorsport through accessible opportunities, and the Formula 4 platform is a terrific means of doing so. We look forward to an exciting season this fall, and we’re sure that the front-runners in this series will be battling once again in the upper levels of motorsport in the years ahead.”
