There’s no other publicly available information released yet, but we’ve seen MotoTrials teased with a mysterious in-game trailer video. It’s listed as coming to the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and has a release date to be announced.
Watching the trailer, it has very similar vibes to the likes of the Trials series which was developed by Ubisoft since 2007 after originally appearing as a browser game in 2000. Although you could also trace the style back to the Kickstart games inspired by the 1980s TV series of the same name.
MotoTrials takes a visually darker and slightly more meta approach, as an unamed player is introduced into a game and has to run and jump to first discover a trials bike. And there’s a slightly more visceral result to crashes than in the Trials series, the most recent of which was Trials Rising back in 2019.
With the low-res feel of the graphics and melancholy guitar soundtrack of the trailer, it certainly has a slightly different feel, even if the rider voice does sound a bit similar at times.
As for the developers, Proud Arts appears to be a small indie studio run by CEO John Daniels, which previously released Nextgen Sandbox for the PS4 in 2019 as a real time destructions and physics title, and previously shared plans for a 4k photo realistic Isle of Man TT game back in 2017.
Given the enigmatic approach to revealing MotoTrials, hopefully we’ll see more information and progress arriving in the future as it’d be nice to not only have a recent trials game, but also a potential alternative to the Ubisoft titles. If the handling and course design are both enjoyable, then MotoTrials could be well worth checking out when a release date is announced.
