There’s quite a lot of promising news from Reiza Studios in their March 2024 Development Update, as Automobilista 2 partners with IMSA and V1.6 is due soon.
Having an official license with the International Motorsports Association means that all the teams, cars and venues from the 2024 season will be arriving in Automobilista 2 in the future, with direct support from IMSA. And while the variety of unusual and older cars is what attracts me to AMS2, it’s undeniable that having the field from the WeatehrTech SportsCar Championship will make it a more appealing racing sim to a lot of people.
A substantial part of this is likely to arrive in v1.6, which should be released at some point this summer, with a smaller 1.5.6 release in the meantime.
Other improvements mentioned for the next two updates include graphics improvements with minimal or no impact on frame rate and performance, including both tracks and car cockpits. The LiveTrack system is also getting updated in how circuits evolve due to weather and dust, and there’s a physics development regarding tyre thermodynamics, wear and hysteresis. The last of these will deal with how rubber compresses and rebounds into the cracks and crevices of a race surface, along with heat generated at a molecular level and the imapct of sliding on grip.
The changes are coming first to the Stock Car Pro Series 2024 which will release in v1.5.6, along with the Formula Ultimate Gen2 as part of a big overhaul including a new 3D model and the latest DRS rules.
Also, if you’re looking for a job at a sim racing developer, Reiza Studios is currently hiring, with C++ code engineers, car and environment artists in particularly high demand. And if you’re interested in contributing in any area of development, you just need to send an application to jobs@reizastudios.com.
