After surprising a fair few people with the initial announcement that the new wheel and pedal set was coming, the Turtle Beach VelocityOne Race is now available to order
We now know that the direct drive feedback is rated at 7.2 Nm from the proprietary K-Drive motor, which is claimed to be smooth and realistic. Which fits pretty well with our expectations, given the previously revealed price of £629.99 making it competitive with the otions available from Fanatec, Thrustmaster and Moza.
You can get a more powerful wheelbase for the same money without steering wheel, but the VelocityOne also includes the Dynamic Brake Tek load-cell aluminium pedals, and a button box. Which means you’ve got everything for an entry or mid-level sim racing experience in one purchase.

The wheel features Mag-Shift paddle shifters, plus two additional analog paddles with Hall Effect sensors which can be used for the clutch and handbrake. It’s covered with hand-stitched leather, and along with the display, there are four rotary dials, six buttons on the wheel itself, and three more on the wheel base.
And that’s before you add the force feedback start and stop buttons, three rotary dials, four more buttons and four switches on the VelocityOne control unit. There’s a tuner app for Xbox, PC and mobile devices to tweak your settings and display, and mounting options are with a low-profile clamp or via pre-drilled holes and mounting screws. It also features four USB-C expansion ports and Turtle Beach audio presets.
While the wheel itself looks more like a videogame accessory than a real motorsport product, the features are all in line with what you’d expect for a mid-level direct drive sim racing wheel and pedal set-up. But as it’s PC and Xbox compatible, comes packaged together, and is made by a familiar name to most gamers, it’s most likely to appeal to those people coming to sim racing from more casual racing games than the existing hardcore looking to change their set-up.
And that’s a good thing. Even the biggest names in sim racing (Fanatec, Thrustmaster, Logitech, Moza, etc) aren’t well-recognised by many casual gamers who are looking to step up from an Xbox controller. But Turtle Beach is fairly well-known, particularly for their range of headsets. Some of us enjoy debating the intricacies of a 5Nm direct drive wheel vs 8Nm, or which pedals are most realistic, but a lot of people just want to know they can buy everything they need in a box and it’ll do the job whether they’re playing Forza or iRacing.
The only real downside is that the wheel doesn’t appear to be swappable, so you’re stuck with the D-shape. There’s a quick release system, but it relies on Thrustmaster producing a range of wheel rims in the future, which isn’t guaranteed at this stage.
The Turtle Beach VelocityOne Race wheel and pedals system is compatible with the PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and can be ordered now from the official website or via stockists including Game. There’s also VelocityOne stand, which is available from various retailers, including Currys.
