First announced in 2021, and inspired by classic road movies, narrative driving game Heading Out launches in May 2024.
Combining endless runner and roguelite gaming with the 1970s vibe of films like Vanishing Point, you’ll take off down American highways as a vigilante driver evading the law and meeting people on the way, encountering hazards, and getting into races or police chases.

Developed for the PC by Polish indie studio Serious Sim, and being published by Saber Interactive, the largely black and white, slightly cartoon style definitely stands out. It’ll launch on May 7th, 2024, but a playable demo will be at PAX East from March 21st to 24th on the Indie Games Poland booth.
Console versions have been previously mentioned, but aren’t included in the current release details, so they may depend on the initial success of Heading Out.
And in an obvious nod to Vanishing Point, the in-game radio hosts will describe your crimes and progress as your journey continues.
Having been raised on 1970s films like Vanishing Point, Two-Lane Blacktop, and The Driver, I’m a sucker for a good road movie with cars and motorcycles at the centre of it. So I’m pretty excited by Heading Out as it seems to definitely capture the vibe of that era. As long as the handling is good enough to live out my dreams of being Kowalski, I’m sold.
And the roguelite element suggests a fair bit of replayability along with some kind of progression to make future driving runs a little easier. Especially as you’ll be presented with various strategic decisions during each trip, which will impact who you meet, fuel consumption, car condition and your wanted level.
You can add Heading Out to your wishlist for the PC on Steam. And you can keep up with the latest Heading Out news, release details and updates, here.
