A global bug causing phantom collisions (often referred to as netcode contacts by sim racers) will hopefully be fixed with iRacing 2024 Season 1 Patch 4 Hotfix 1 released.
Netcode refers to an issue with all online games, where the time it takes for your PC or console to communicate with the servers can mean your position or that of other cars is different to what’s on your screen. But the hotfix refers to something slightly different, where the steering of opponent cars could cause them to be in a different lateral position from their actual position, which is a particular problem in corners.
It follows two other recent iRacing updates which made changes to the UI rather than the racing sim itself, and therefore didn’t require any downtime for maintenance.
iRacing 2024 Season 1 Patch 4 Hotfix 1 Release Notes
- Fixed a global bug with the steering behavior of opponent cars which could cause them to be in a different lateral position from their actual position.
- – – This issue could cause phantom contacts where a driver may not appear to physically contact another car from their perspective, but according to the race server processing, contact was made. This effect was most noticeable in corners, where cars would be actively changing lateral position rapidly.
