It’s one of the biggest endurance events in sim racing, and the 2024 iRacing Daytona 24 winners and statistics demonstrate an impressive start to the year.
In the top split, the GTP victory went to Atte Kaupinen, Moreno Sirica, INDYCAR driver Agustin Canapine and Carl E Jansson in the #6 Williams Esports Playseat, winning by 6.375 seconds after 24 hours of racing. The #69 Drago Racing GTP took second with Dominik Hoffmann, Przemyslaw Marek Lemanek and Timo Roora, and with the #8 VRS Coanda of Joshua K Rogers, Zac Campbell and Elvis Ranking in third.
In LMP2, the win went to Alexander Davidson, Lukas Prada, Robin Glreum and Luks Lindqvist in the #23 WSR Esports Buttkicker entry, followed by the #130 MAG Performance LMP of Gabriele Mini, Andrea Bristot and Alessandro Marras, and the #76 SIMRC of Jurgen Frank, Antti Ahola, Corentin Guinez and Marvin Strehl.
And in GTD, it was victory for reigning Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen, Gianni Vecchio and Ole Steinbraten in the #4 Team Redline, followed by the #199 Stormforce ART of Jimmy Antunes, Luke McKeown, Alex Dunne and Maxense Godiinho, and the #2 Team Redline car of Gustavo Ariel, Josh Thompson, Florian A Lebigre and Alexey Nesov.
But the current F1 world champion and other top split winners weren’t the only ones celebrating at the end of the race. Simply making it to the end is a big achievement, whether or not you got a good result in almost 100 splits competing in the event.
In total, the 2024 iRacing Daytona 24 powered by VCO saw a record 18,575 total drivers and 4,055 unique teams compete across 95 Splits. And in total, there were 2,873,067 laps completed, for a total of 10,228,118 miles driven, and 82,856 total hours raced.
For comparison, that’s up from 16,651 drivers, 85 splits, 2.25 million laps and almost 8.6 million miles during the same event in 2023. Although strangely, the number of teams was actually down from 4,191, suggesting that more outfits were fielding additional drivers, resulting in a faster pace.
