It’s been a while since any announcements, but is CarX Street coming to Steam Early Access in 2024? That’s certainly the plan revealed by CarX Technologies, who revealed they need around two or three months before a final pre-release closed beta test.
The developers of the CarX Drift series (including CarX Drift Racing Online for the PC) originally announced the Street game in 2021. Set in, and around, the fictional location of Sunset City, it offers a mix of realistic races and top-speed drifting, with the usual idea of unlocking parts and tuning to upgrade your cars.
So you can compete on a mix of traffic-filled urban streets, plus the mountain roads and coastal highways surrounding the city. The mobile version includes online multiplayer, along with buying houses, filling up with petrol and dynamic time of day changes.
It’s proved popular on mobile devices with 5 million+ downloads for the Android version, and it’ll be interesting to see whether the feature set and handling has been changed for the transition to the PC, given that it’s taken a few years to arrive.
Given that the mobile version is very much built around in-app purchases, we’ll have to wait and see whether it uses the same approach for the PC, or that gets replaced.
CarX Drift Racing Online was originally released for the PC back in 2017, but is still being actively updated with the latest changes arriving in December 2023 with update 2.20.0. So CarX Technologies do have longterm experience in developing a PC game. That game currently costs £12.79, with a range of DLC packs available, CarX Street might follow a similar approach.
If you’re looking for an alternative to titles like Need for Speed, then it could be worth keeping an eye on CarX Street.
You can add CarX Street to your Steam wishlist now. And follow all of the latest CarX Street news, updates, DLC and more, here.
