If you’re looking for a new quick fix for more casual fun, retro arcade racer New Start GP will launch in March, 2024 for PC, Xbox, Switch and PlayStation consoles.

If you haven’t seen news about the new title from UK developers New Star Games, it offers a career mode which starts in the 1980s, and requires you to upgrade your car in eight different ways, along with unlocking perks to improve your engineer, pit and commercial staff.
This means there’s more depth and detail than you might expect from an arcade racing game, with news stories, dilemmas and off-track roleplaying events along with the actual experience on track.
In terms of the racing action, there’s local split-screen racing for up to four players, with 176 unique events including GPs, time trials, checkpoint races, reverse races, rival races and elimination events, set at 17 track locations around the world. Each circuit has different weather conditions and track abrasion, meaning your strategy will hve to change depending on your car development, and where you’re racing.
New Star GP also includes 45 different AI opponents with individual personalities and driving styles, along with car livery and driver customisation.
If you’re interested in the PC version, it might be worth grabbing New Star GP in Early Access, as the price is likely to increase with the full release.
