After being released in June 2023 to mixed reviews, Drift Reign launches for PlayStation on January 9, 2023. It’s not actually confirmed whether that means PS4, PS5 or both, but I guess that will be confirmed when the store listing goes live.
The PC version is listed as developed and published by PublishMe Agency Limited, but the PlayStation version is from Midnight Works. And like many racing and drift titles, you’ll need to work your way up from an unknown to an icon by competing in drifting events and races to earn rewards.
Some of the features include an apparently ‘in-depth’ sponsorship system, funding your journey from a first car up to a customised drift machine, with modifications including the engine block, cylinder head, turbocharger, supercharger, exhaust, intake, ECU and gearbox tuning, and tyres.
The claims include ultra-realistic graphics, vehicle physics and sound, and without having time to try it for myself, it certainly looks and sounds alright. There’s support for Thrustmaster and Logitech wheels (using Logitech GHub only), and an Xbox release is planned for some point in the future. Obviously, you can also use a controller if you prefer.
Pricing is unconfirmed, but the Steam version is currently available for £4.99. So a lot depends on the price compared to similar titles already available, and how much content is added in the future when it comes to cars and tracks. The PC version did get three cars and a new track back in August 2023, and mod support was announced in October, but more details haven’t been revealed yet.
You can find Drift Reign for the PC via Steam, and for Sony consoles via the PlayStation store.
