With more power and less aerodynamics than the GT3 class, there’s some excitement around the Assetto Corsa Competizione GT2 pack teased for January. The first video released has revealed two of the upcoming cars, with the Porsche 935, and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS CS EVO Kit.
The Fanatec GT2 European Series features two classes, with Pro-Am and Am drivers, piloting cars with up to 700bhp, but downforce levels similar to the GT4 series. And while homologated cars including the Audi R8 LMS, Brabham BT63 GT2, the KTM X-Bow GT2, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Evo, the Maserati MC20 Gt2 and the Mercedes-AMG GT2, other cars have been allowed to compete, including the 935 and the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo.
The GT2 class has been mentioned in the past, with an original planned release in 2023. But despite a delay, it’ll now arrive before the upcoming 2024 GT World Challenge Pack which should include the Nordschleife, currently scheduled for some time in Spring 2024.
The 2023 season saw the Pro-Am title won by Henry Hassid and Anthony Beltoise with LP Racing Audi, who won the championship by a single point. And an Am championship for RTR Projects KTM Jan Krabec. The next 12-round season kicks off at the start of April 2024, with the first two rounds at Circuit Paul Ricard.
Personally, I’m probably more excited by the arrival of a new class offering more power and less downforce than the ability to drive the Norschleife in yet another sim. Especially the retro special edition Porsche 935, which is based on the 991 GT2 RS (including the 691hp engine), but with the iconic bodywork harkening back to the original 1970s models.
It’s probably safe to assume that the new ACC GT2 Car Pack will be released for the PC initially, and may come to current gen console versions at a later date. Development and releases for the previous gen (Xbox One and PS4) halted some time ago.
Assetto Corsa Competizione is available as a digital download for the PC via Steam, the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via the Microsoft Store, or the PS4 and PS5 via the PlayStation Store. And also as a physical edition from Game or Amazon.
