Just like the real Formula Ford event each year, there will now be a virtual BRSCC iRacing FF1600 Festival to take place in November, 2023. It’ll run on specific time slots over the 17th and 18th of the month on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, with two heats and a last chance qualifer before the 30 driver final.
The Formula Ford Festival has run since 1972, and moved to Brands Hatch in 1975. For many years it was the highlight of the season with hundreds of entries from around the world. And previous winners include Johnny Herbert, Eddie Irvine, Mark Webber, Jensen Button, Josef Newgarden (in the Kent engine class), and many more familiar names from motorsport. It usually takes place towards the end of October, with the 2023 event taking place last weekend.
The time slots for the 2023 BRSCC iRacing FF1600 Festival are as follows:
November 17-18, 2023
- Timeslot #1 – Friday 22:00 GMT
- Timeslot #2 – Saturday 07:00 GMT
- Timeslot #3 – Saturday 12:00 GMT
- Timeslot #4 – Saturday 16:00 GMT
Each event will take place on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit, and need a Rookie 4.0 and up license level, with a 30 minute warm-up followed by 8 minutes to complete two laps for qualifying. This is followed by two 10-lap heats for 28 drivers, with the top 13 advancing to the 20 lap final.
There’s also a last chance qualifer, again over 10 laps, with 4 drivers making it through from a field of 30.
The Final will see 30 drivers competing over 20 laps, with a 17x incident limit.
The FF1600 is a great car to drive and offers the opportunity for a lot of action and competitive racing, and hopefully we’ll see this become an annual iRacing special event.
