If you’ve been waiting patiently to try your hand at dirt ovals, you’ll be happy to see World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing ’23 Edition out on the Switch. It’s available for £53.99 via the Nintendo website.
Developed by Monster Games after they were acquired by iRacing, World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing was originally released in September 2022 for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5. It seems to have gone well as a first console release published by the sim racing company, judging by the number of multiplayer races shared back in March 2023. And the further news of both ExoCross and a new NASCAR game for consoles, following iRacing acquiring the license for the latter series from Motorsport Games.
The ’23 Edition matches the Ultimate Edition bundle released for other platforms, which includes everything from the original release, plus all downloadable content from the 2022 Season Pass and 2023 Season Update. Those extras include new series, like the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets, UMP Modifieds and Big Block Modifieds, along with new tracks such as Lincoln Speedway, Lernerville Speedway, the Chilli Bowl, Lucas Oil Speedway and Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55.
Many of the tracks and series match those available in iRacing, but there’s no compatibility between the platforms. So you can’t use your Switch to race against PC oval racers in sim rigs costing thousands. But there is some sim-style influence separating it from competitors, along with the official licence for drivers, teams and liveries.
World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing is available for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S via the Microsoft Store, or the PS4 and PS5 via the PlayStation Store, and the Switch via the Nintendo eShop.
