After originally launching back in 2017, Polyphony Digital has announced the Gran Turismo online services will end in 2024. Downloadable content will be removed from sale on December 1st 2023, and the online features will stop on January 31st, 2024 at 6am UTC.
This means you won’t be able to use online features such as muliplayer lobbies and season events, buy things from the mileage store, or access custom car, helmet or suit designs. While it’s common for games to close their online services as usage declines or their focus has moved to over titles, it’s a shame the custom paintschemes are tied to internet access.
Obviously this also means that any Trophies requiring an online connection will no longer be accessible. But you’ll still be able to access all cars, tracks and offline portions of the game, including any DLC you’ve previously bought and downloaded.
Six years is a reasonable amount of time for a game to be supported, and Polyphony Digital have since moved on to release Gran Turismo 7 in 2022. So if you’re on a PlayStation 4, you’ll need to make the switch for online racing (if you haven’t already).
And make sure you take photos of your favourite custom liveries to save them for posterity.
