As part of a new partnership agreement with the Superstar Racing Experience, SRX is coming to iRacing in 2024 with both the car and series appearing some time next year.
The American stock car series began in 2021 with founders including Tony Stewart, and offers shorter length racing at smaller tracks, with drivers and crew chiefs randomly paired for each event. Cars are allocated before each race via a random draw.
The SRX cars are designed and built by Fury Race Cars, using naturally aspirated Ilmor V8 396 engines, along with Edelbrock components and PFC brakes. And drivers are a mix of notable older names with young and rising stars, competing in 90 races without pit stops. The 2023 champion is Ryan Newman, with previous title holders being Marco Andretti and Tony Stewart.
“We’re excited to welcome SRX into iRacing in a future release,” said iRacing president Tony Gardner. “The SRX car has been a big request from our customers, and many of their past and present tracks are already on the service, which will allow for a quick and seamless integration. We’re looking forward to a release sometime next year, and can’t wait for our iRacers to get their hands on it!”
“We’ve heard the fans on social media, and we are thrilled that race fans will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of an SRX car in iRacing,” said SRX Chief Executive Officer, Don Hawk. “We think that the SRX car, schedule, and race format will produce incredible action in the virtual world as in the real one, and the series should prove to be a popular addition to iRacing in 2024. We are excited for iRacers around the world to get to experience what we’ve built firsthand in the coming months!”
That format is a pair of 12 minute heat races, followed by a 90 minute feature race without pitstops, taking place on both half mile dirt and asphalt short tracks.
It’s also worth mentioning that the 2021 release, SRX: The Game was developed by Monster Games, as were Tony Stewart’s Sprint Car Racing and Tony Stewart’s All-American Racing. So with the developer being acquired by iRacing, it’s not a surprise that the previous strong working relationship has been passed to the parent company. Given that experience, and the apparent success of World of Outlaws: Dirt Racing on consoles, could this also lead to a new SRX title on the Xbox and PlayStation, published by iRacing?
The announcement also comes at an interesting time, considering Motorsport Games is apparently in discussions with a third party for the sale of their current NASCAR license, so could this be an indication that the prospective buyer isn’t iRacing? Or perhaps the sim platform will have secured all virtual stock car racing for next year.
