After Original Fire Games started teasing a second title to follow Circuit Superstars, things have progressed quickly. It’s now been announced that Karting Superstars will launch in Autumn 2023, and a first gameplay clip has already been shared.
Using the same Unity game engine, the new title shares the same aesthetic feel as Circuit Superstars. But uses different perspective from the overhead title to suit the quick steering of the karts. And features announced include a single player mode with dynamic AI opponents that will learn and grow with you, along with 12 player online races.
There are also time trial modes with global leaderboards and ghosts to learn from other drivers. Apparently there won’t be a career mode or a variety of karts and upgrades at the moment, which isn’t the end of the world, and you can customise the designs of your driver and vehicle.
But the explicit mention that it won’t offer split screen multiplayer is a bit disappointing, as it would be perfect to have two-player local races with the AI filling the rest of the field. Especially with everyone in the same karts, and no tweaking or tuning them to gain an advantage. And the simcade level of handling would make it slightly more serious that a cartoon kart game, whilst still being accessible.
As it’s using similar graphics, and even the Sienna track from Circuit Superstars, it’s possible that this is a test by Original Fire Games to see how popular Karting Superstars becomes before potentially adding more features. And it’s also listed with the studio as the publisher, rather than Square Enix who supported the previous game.
Karting Superstars will be released for the PC in Q3 2023, and you can wishlist it on Steam, here. And you can keep up with all the latest Karting Superstars news, updates and more, here.
