If you fancy taking on a different challenge to surviving the first turn of most races, then there’s driving survival title Pacific Drive due for Q1 2024.
Rather than watching for someone launching themselves into the pack, you’re going to need to navigate your way through an area of the Pacific Northwest in a station wagon. With the Olympic Exclusion Zone left untouched for 30 years and surrounded by a 300-metre wall, you’ll need to repair your car and drive through the winding roads to figure out the secrets of the area, upgrade your vehicle with resources you find, and outrun a storm at the same time.

Which seems suitably terrifying, but also fun at the same time. You’ll need to make sure you have enough petrol to keep driving, but also reinforce your car to protect you from radiation and other threats. And basically turning it into a rolling fortress to help you explore and investigate.

It’s being developed by Seattle-based Ironwood Studios, and I think they might actually be targetting me with Pacific Drive. Along with the fact I love driving games, and real-life road trips, I also have a girlfriend that enjoys horror games and films. And I actually lived and studied in Washington State many years ago, so it might bring back a few memories with the familiar scenery. Or just the experience of being lost in a station wagon, which is rarely the hero car of any driving game.
Pacific Drive will be released for the PC and PlayStation 5 in early 2024, and you can find it via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the PlayStation Store. And you can keep up with all the latest Pacific Drive news, updates and more, here.
