Originally released in December 2022, if you haven’t tried the latest in the franchise yet, you can play Need for Speed Unbound free via Steam until 24th July, 2023.
The latest in the Need for Speed franchise has been developed by Criterion Games, and as an Electronic Arts title, it’s also available if you’re an EA Play subscriber after being added to the service last month. Obviously, the free play weekend is for PC only, and you’ll need to keep in mind there’s a fairly slow and deliberate progression curve to the game. So think of it as an opportunity to check it out rather than the chance to blow through everything in a couple of days.
June saw the Volume 3 Speed Spass launch, with the ranked progression adding the 2014 Dodge SRT Viper and the DeLorean DMC-12 as new cars, along with DLC content, a free-roam feature, and a host of general fixes and improvements in the accompanying patch. These include the new co-operative LinkUps challenges. The previous Volume 2 update added hot laps, plice scrimmages and the Mercedes-Maybach S 680.
It’s the 25 instalment in the Need for Speed franchise, and the first to be developed by Criterion as the main developer since Most Wanted in 2012.
