The launch of the new Game Pass Core service on September 14th will include one racing title, as the Xbox Live Gold replacement includes Forza Horizon 4, with titles changing two or three times each year.
In the past, Games with Gold offered free games each month for the Xbox 360, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S as part of your subscription to the online gaming services. But from September, you’ll instead get access to a launch collection of more than 25 titles, with the roster getting new additions two or three times each year. Presumably some games will also be removed or replaced when licensing agreements or online services are retired.
Forza Horizon 4 launched in September 2018, with Playground Games setting the action in the UK. And it’s remained popular even after the release of Forza Horizon 5 in November 2021. That continued player base, and the inclusion in Game Pass Core explains why it hasn’t reached end-of-life in the same timescale as previous titles (most recently Forza Horizon 3 in 2020, with Forza Horizon 1 and 2 online services ending next month, in August 2023.)
The good news is that it should provide a bit of a boost to the Forza Horizon 4 player base, meaning that you might be able to jump back in and finish any missing achievements. Or sample it for the first time, if you’re one of the few that hasn’t played it yet.
Any Xbox 360 titles previously redeemed via Games with Gold will stay in your libray whatever happens, with Xbox One titles accessible as long as you continue subscribing to one of the four tiers of Game Pass service in the future, with prices ranging from $9.99 to $16.99 (including conole and PC titles).
It’s currently the only racing game or sim included, with other notable titles including Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Wars 2, and more.
