Fancy arcade racing with a standard perspective or in virtual reality? InRun launches for Steam and Meta Quest on July 18, 2023, with the claim that the VR support won’t produce any motion sickness.
The basics of the driving is familiar from various arcade racers over the years. You’ll need to dodge traffic in the dynamic world and collect ‘style balloons’, including some hidden in shortcuts, along with coins to unlock, upgrade and customise your cars. And you can steal balloons from other human players by hitting them from behind, or earn an extra reward before finishing a level before they do.
InRun includes 17 different cars to choose from, along with a soundtrack of more than 30 tunes, support for FFV steering wheels and motion platforms, and the promise of crossplatform multiplayer. But what’s potentially most interesting is the anti-rotation system for the cameras, which means they won’t need to roll around and potentially cause discomfort and motion sickness.
Developed by Ivanovich Games, which is apparently a ‘leading force in Barcelona’s Virtual Reality gaming development scene’ (and who previously released Touring Karts for the PS4 and PlayStation VR), the combination of later 80’s style and modern VR could be an interesting combination.
The initial version is launching with five tracks, and more are planned to be released on a monthly basis. But everything else should be included, with a storyline, multiplayer mode, character editor and more, and the plan is to release a full version at a higher price in around six months or longer.
You can find inRun as an Early Access title on Steam for the PC, or for the Meta Quest from July 18th, 2023 with a listed price of £10.99. And find more of our coverage of other arcade racing games, here.
