If you’re looking to try a new mobile racing title, then the Finnish Game Awards for PAKO Highway might serve as a recommendation. The latest title from Helsink-based indie developers Tree Men Games captured both the Game of the Year 2022 and Mobile Game of the Year 2022.
The trio behind the company met at university and founded Tree Men Games in 2013, releasing PAKO – Car Chase Simulator in 2014. The latest title in the PAKO series arrived in 2022 with the challenge of racing down endless highways, dodging obstacles, and building up boost power by overtaking traffic as closely as possible.
You’re able to level up your car, buy new vehicles and unlock more strages, while listening to synthwave, elecro and lofi house radio stations, and driving through a variety of environments.
Obviously mobile gaming hasn’t been a niche area for many years, with big name titles earning lots of money and recognition. But racing games tend to be a little less visible, so it’s interesting to see it taking an overall award as well as a mobile one.
It’s the tenth event celebrated by the Finnish Game Developer Studios Association, and it’s always fascinating to see the titles celebrated in different countries around the world. Especially if it reveals racing games that I might not have tried, or even heard about until now.
PAKO Highway is available for Android devices for free via the Google Play store with a current rating of 4.5 stars and 961 reviews. Or for iOS devices via the App Store, with a matching 4.5 score and 405 ratings. It does contain ads and in-app purchases.
While we tend to focus on PC and console racing sims and games, you can find our other coverage of mobile racing games for Android, here, or for iOS, here, including cross-platform titles and more.
