There’s a lot of new content, physics improvements and more, but the big news from developers Mad Cow is that TrackDayR Update 1.0.95.51 adds multiplayer for up to 22 racers in a lobby.
I’ve been a big fan of the motorcycle racing sim since it first appeared in early access in March 2021. It’s definitely challenging to learn how to handle realistic bike physics, but it’s also hugely rewarding. Especially when you can pick anything from a scooter to a two-stroke 500cc Grand Prix bike, and there’s a substantial amount of mod content to replicate bikes, tracks and liveries that you might want.
But while hotlapping is fun, competing against other humans is a bigger attraction for me, and many other sim racers. So adding 22 player lobbies for multiplayer is likely to draw me into TrackDayR a lot more in the future.
But that’s not all that has arrived in the major update release. To coincide with multiplayer, there’s also a new anti-cut penalty system, which is obviously going to be useful when you’re up against rival sim racers looking to gain an advantage.
Also helping to build the racing community is text chat, which can be opened with T on your keyboard by default.
Supercross has also arrived in TrackDayR with three new SX courses, alongside a new motocross venue. All existing circuits have also been updated and optimised to the new Unity3D frameworks.
And there have been some further physics engine updates, focusing on suspension, and the surface contact point of the wheel on the faces of jumps, which is obviously important when you’re riding off-road tracks. The MX tyre model has been improved as well, so you get more grip.
As a result of the new penalty system, time attack records have been reset. And you’ll also need to restore defaults for your controller in the open menu to make sure everything is up to date and working as intended.
