You’ll be able to experience street racing in the fictional Palm City as Need for Speed Heat is on PlayStation Plus in September 2022. The 2019 title developed by Ghost Games (now EA Gothenburg) will be available for subscribers to download from September 6th until October 3rd.
The 24th title in the series was the final to be developed by Ghost Games before the reins were handed back to Criterion. It’s set in a fictional open world environment and you can choose to switch between competing in sanctioned racing events during the day, or competing in illegal street races during the night, which means you’ll be pursued by the Palm City Police Department.
Along with various challenges and unlockables, there are 127 cars in the game, from 33 manufacturers, and cross-platform play was added in a final patch released in June, 2020. Some free content updates added cars including the Aston Martin DB11 Volante and Polestar 1, with only two DLC options, which are the McLaren F1 Black Market Delivery, and the Keys to the Map timesaving add-on. A storyline also involves you interacting with the police, including Lt Frank Mercer.
It’s also been available for a while as part of EA Play, which is included as part of Xbox Games Pass, so every platform now has a way to access it via a subscription service. And as PlayStation Plus is a requirement for online gaming via a Sony console, it should provide a big boost to player numbers when it arrives on September 6th.
