An increasing number of sim racers have embraced virtual reality headsets over traditional triple or single monitor set-ups. So the F1 22 VR Quick Look video at the Canadian Grand Prix is a useful insight into how the game will display when it launches on July 1st, 2022.
Codemasters have chosen to drive as Lance Stroll in the Aston Martin AMR22, taking on his home race at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. The 2.7 mile track in Montreal features 14 turns, and was originally named the Ile Notre-Dame before being renamed in honour of the F1 legend in 1982. The final chicane and race-ending ‘Wall of Champions’ are notable features of the layout.
The 2022 Canadian GP took place on Sunday, June 19th, with Stroll finishing in 10th for Aston Martin, in a race won by Max Verstappen ahead of Carlos Sainz Jr and Lewis Hamilton.
“VR revolutionises F1 22 on PC and takes the race weekend to an entirely new level,” said Lee Mather, F1® Senior Creative Director at Codemasters. “From the claustrophobia of sitting in the cockpit to the intensity of lights out as 20 cars accelerate towards the first corner. This is as close to Formula 1 racing as you can get without being on the actual grid.”
F1 22 will be released on July 1st, 2022 for the PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4 and PS5. You can find it for the PC on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Origin. Or via the Microsoft Store for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S and the PlayStation Store for the PS4 and PS5. Physical copies are available from Game or Amazon.
