A small update has arrived alongside an interesting race venue, with both iRacing 2021 Season 3 Patch 5 and Mt Washington released.
We’ve previously written about the Mount Washington Auto Road route, and you can run it either as the Hillclimb configuration, or the Descent if you prefer heading downhill. And the pre-release version can be purchased for $14.95 within your iRacing account to try it out.
And it’s been test driven by U.S rally champion and current Mt Washington record holder Travis Pastrana, who talked about the circuit, his Subaru STI, and other sim racing topics.
But there are some other notable changes in the accompanying free update. They include baseline setups for the Indy Pro 2000 PM-18 getting revised, tweaks to the Subaru WRX STI, and the grip parameters at both the Rockingham Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway ovals. And dirt will now be less likely to stain the tarmac at Laguna Seca and Oulton Park, if that’s something which has bothered you in the past.
iRacing 2021 Season 3 Patch 5 Release Notes:
SIMULATION:
Rendering
- We have integrated SpeedTree into our simulation/game engine. SpeedTree is a 3D vegetation modeling and rendering system designed for films and real-time games. It provides our artists with tools to build location-specific trees and then quickly place them at our racetracks. The system is engineered to render these trees efficiently and with built-in level-of-detail (LOD) management, and has received specific customization to make it work optimally for iRacing’s requirements. This feature is making its debut at Mount Washington and will be used more extensively in the future.
