A futuristic racing game developed as part of the Playstation Talents initiative, Ion Driver gets a PS4 digital launch today for the price of €4.99, or $4.99.
Spanish developers Moon Whale Studio have created Ion Driver, which will probably remind you of the classic WipeOut series, or the more recent Pacer. You get to choose from different ships with varying atributes including health, which can be recovered by flying over regeneration zones. Plus an original soundtrack, an art style reminiscent of the infleunces on the game, and ship customization to tailor the stats to your own preference.
The press information doesn’t mention any online multiplayer, or more details on single player modes. So it’s not clear if there are any championship or series to play through. But there is an English language trailer which includes a clip of what appears to be four-player split-screen racing.
And that’s about everything we know about the game, over than it was created as part of a program launched in 2015 by Sony Interactive Entertianment Spain to unify everything being put together to develop the local gaming industry in the country.
Ion Driver is backwards comaptible on the PS5, and is currently available via the Spanish PlayStation store for €4,99, or the U.S version for $4.99. It doesn’t seem to have appeared on the UK site yet, but we’d imagine it’ll probably cost around £4.99 if and when it does. It’s published by Gammera Nest SL.
Futuristic racing games appear to be going through a bit of a resurgence at the moment, considering there’s also Voidspeed Outlaw coming to the PC from Estonian studio Cydonian Games, with influences going back even further to F-Zero style graphics.
