The top-down racing game developed by Original Fire Games, and published by Square Enix continues to progress through Steam Early Access, with Circuit Superstars update v.0.2.0 released to bring a lot of new online features and gameplay improvements. Plus there’s also a new circuit to try out.
One of the biggest additions is that you can now create or join an online public lobby with friends, although it’s not available for private rooms quite yet. You can now get together as a group to race against other people, and lobbies have had their capacity increased from six to 12 racers.
Along with being able to party up, there’s are also various online improvements including more reliable synchronisation, fixing issues with other cars not moving or gauges not responding, and a better experience if you’re connecting with players around the world.
But the team haven’t only been working on the online side of Circuit Superstars. They’ve also improved how ghosts are triggered and operate, and adjusted the penalty system to describe what triggered them. And this includes wall riding, which can also cause damage when that option is enabled. Alongside some adjustments to track limits, it should tighten up competition in time trials and racing.
Other fixes include UI readability, automatic bug tracking, and fixing some occurences of startup crashes. But in addition to all of that comes the longest circuit created for Circuit Superstars so far. The new Tiksport circuit is a beach oasis surrounded by freshwater lakes, with three different routes available to cover tarmac and off-road competition.
Hopefully F1 circuit designer Hermann Tilke will be suitably honoured. And it’s great to see work progressing fairly rapidly on the game, as it’s created by a small, family-led team.
The PC version of Circuit Superstars is available now via Steam Early Access. And console versions are being developed for the Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. You’ll be able to keep up with the latest Circuit Superstars news and updates, here.
