You’ll need to be a little more patient if you were excited by the first gameplay video, with the MXGP 2020 release date pushed back almost a week for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. And the PlayStation 5 version will now be available in 2021.
We’ve seen various games move release dates due to the challenging situation everyone faces in 2020. Developers Milestone haven’t revealed the exact details for the delay, but they have confirmed new dates for availability.
The PC, Xbox One and PS4 versions of MXGP 2020 have now been confirmed for launch on December 16th 2020, pushed back from December 10th, and they will apparently be available only as digital releases.
Meanwhile the PlayStation 5 version of MXGP 2020 will be both a physical and digital release, and has moved from December 10th until January 14th, 2021.
It’s a bit of a surprise that the current generation of consoles won’t get a physical release of the game – it’s sold well enough for five previous titles, plus the Monster Energy Supercross sister title which covers the American series. We can only assume that either there is a Covid-related issue affecting production, or the decision has been made that it won’t be cost-effective with the current gen being replaced, and PC sales largely switching to digital downloads for a long time now.
Given the short notice, and previous listings for physical releases, we can only assume it’s more likely to be a temporary issue, which means we might see a physical version appear at some point in the future, especially as Milestone already have significant post-release content planned.
Either way, you’ll be able to keep up with the latest MXGP 2020 release dates, news and content, right here. You can add MXGP 2020 to your Steam wishlist for the PC, or pre-order it at Game or Amazon for the PlayStation 5.
