Sim racing will get very interesting in a couple of weeks as iRacing 2020 Season 4 adds new race series and tyre choices. That’s in addition to the previously revealed extra free cars and tracks which will become included in your standard membership, and the release of both the Dallara P217 LMP2 and Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway.
The A Class iRacing Grand Prix Series will allow you to choose between soft, medium and hard tyres for the McLaren MP4-30 F1 car, meaning that your race strategy will have to take into account different grip and wear rates for the first time. Obviously the sim racing title has existing models for tyre degradation, but this will mean a much bigger different from rival racers than saving some of your rubber from your driving technique.
You’ll have to start the race with fresh tyres of the same compound you qualified with, so this will definitely open up the racing to different tactics. Especially if you’re a driver like me who tends to perform better in races than in qualification. Apparently it’s part of a significant engineering overhaul for the McLaren MP4-30 in iRacing, so it’ll be interesting to see how the car performs for Season 4.

iRacing 2020 Season 4 will also have three racing series added to the schedule featuring touring cars, the Ferrari GT3, and a new GT Endurance Series for solo drivers.
Touring Car Challenge:
Open to Class D drivers and above, this calendar of 15 minute races will feature the Audi RS3 LMS on an hourly schedule. So it’s a good way to get a quick touring car experience on the regular.
Ferrari GT3 Challenge:
The hourly Class D and up series returns by popular demand, allowing you to compete in the Ferrari 488 GT3 in a variety of sprint races.
GT Endurance Series:
The new series most appealing to me personally is the 90 minute endurance events featuring GTE cars and serving as the solo-driver endurance racing series from Season 4. It’s going to follow the iRacing Le Mans schedule, alternating every two weeks with the Endurance Le Mans Series.
As someone who really enjoys longer races wherever possible, this is definitely on my list to try when Season 4 begins.
