One of the reasons Assetto Corsa remains such a popular sim racing title six years after originally being released is down to the comprehensive modding scene. But it’s still unusual to see a free official KTM X-Bow GT4 mod for Assetto Corsa appear.
The Austrian motorcycle and sports car company worked with Kunos Simulazioni and Sim Department to produce the virtual version of the GT4 model for Assetto Corsa. And it follows the release of the car as part of the GT4 pack for the the current Kunos title, Assetto Corsa Competizione.
Obviously, as a downloadable mod, it’s available for the PC version of the game, and not console editions.
KTM claims it’s the first vehicle manufacturer to develop and produce an official virtal version which is made available to the gaming community for free, which might need some fact checking. But either way, it’s still a really cool move for the company to make the KTM X-Bow GT4 available in a sim racing game which is still hugely popular.
As the Facebook post explains, you’ll need to visit the following url to download the KTM X-Bow GT4 mod: http://cdn.esport-simracing.com/installer/ktm_installer.exe.
But that takes out some of the steps typically required for installing unofficial mod content into the game. Which is always appreciated.
Given the frequent issues over vehicle licensing in games, it’s certainly refreshing to see a car manufacturer decide to support a free mod. And hopefully if it’s successful, we might see more manufacturers help to create current and historic models in conjunction with developers and modders.
And after all, if you own a copy of Assetto Corsa, there’s really no reason not to download the KTM X-Bow GT4 mod in case you fancy taking the car for a drive. Especially as a race and championship winning car which holds the current ADAC GT4 title.
If you don’t currently own Assetto Corsa, you can find it here on Steam for the PC. You can also check out our previous Assetto Corsa coverage and track list to see what else is available in the sim racing game.
And if you want to experience the KTM X-Bow GT4 as part of Assetto Corsa Competizione, you can find the game on Steam for the PC, the Microsoft Store for Xbox One, and the PlayStation Store for PS4. The console release of the GT4 DLC is expected fairly soon, but in the meantime, you can have a look at all of our Assetto Corsa Competizione news, the ACC car list, and ACC track list.
