The Isle of Man Tourist Trophy has run during the end of May and start of June since 1907. The postponement of the 2020 event due to the global pandemic is one of the very few times the races have failed to take place, but there’s some solace as a Virtual TT offers an Isle of Man TT Trip as a prize.
The Isle of Man TT has only previously paused during the first and second World Wars, and the 2001 foot and mouth crsis. So the 2020 cancellation is an unusual event, leaving riders and fans without their usual road racing excitement.
As a result the latest TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2 game has been used to stage some celebrity racing with eight TT stars teaming up with gamers and fans to take part in a Virtual TT 2020 Team competition. And an open competition starts from June 13th until the 25th of the month to win a trip to the Isle of Man TT in 2021 along with the chance to meet the riders.
The “TT Ride on the Edge 2020” virtual TT competition is open to racers competing on the PC and PlayStation 4. There’s no indication why developers KT Racing and publishers NACON haven’t included the Xbox One community.
What we do know is that the top prize is a trip for two for the 2021 Isle of Man TT Races. And the runner-up will win an official, limited-edition TT 2020 Arai helmet.
It’s a three round contest:
- Rd 1: June 13th-17th, open qualification round on a training and test circuit from Ireland to slect the top 50 players.
- Rd 2: The top 50 players will compete from June 20-22nd to record the fastes lap of the TT Mountain Course.
- Rd 3: The 25th June will see the top 10 rides compete to be the fastest in the Senior TT Race, which means 6 laps and 227 miles of the Mountain Course.
The news of the competition appeared a few days ago. As yet, there’s no further details on the omission of Xbox players, or more details on how to register and take part. Hopefully we’ll be able to share more information soon.
David Talmat, Marketing Director at NACON, said: “The Tourist Trophy is the culmination of the year for many riders after preparing for it all season. And for many fans it’s a dream to watch it in person one day! It’s a great disappointment that the race can’t go ahead this year, but we’re delighted to set up this competition based on TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2, which will allow two people to experience the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy first hand next year!”
