Ready to invest in a high-end sim racing steering wheel? Then you may want to add the Rexing Carbon Fibre GT Steering Wheel to your list. The latest product from the Croatian company isn’t cheap, but it’s got pretty much everything you could want from a wheel.
The company has a relatively small team, but with a lot of experience in carbon fibre and sim racing technology. So they produce small amounts of top specification wheels, starting with full carbob fibre construction. And that material is vacuum bagged before being cured in an autoclave to achieve high quality and a great surface.
And then everything is very carefully hand assembled
It’s the same production process used in aeronautics and real motorsport, so there are no need for any metal inserts. Which helps the 320mm diameter Rexing Carbon Fibre GT Steering Wheel come in with a weight of 1150g. The grip section comes in a 42 x 26 mm at the thickest part.
The wheel houses a 4.3″ wide angle colour LCD made by Ultimate Game Tech, along with 15 rpm LEDs, and 6 additional marshal LEDs to make sure you spot when a yellow flag is being waved.
And then we’re onto the long list of switches, which include; an analog joystick/thumbstick, 13 configurable push buttons (8 push buttons, and 4 switchs in a D-pad configuration, plus 1 on the analog joystick), 2 rotary encoders on the front, 2 momentary toggle switches, and lastly, 2 thumb rotary encoders for even easier access during a race.
When you’ve finished playing with all the industrial buttons and switches on the front, you might get around to playing with the magnetic paddle shifters on the back, which use an Omron switch for reliability. And with no metal hitting metal on gear changes, you’ll be quieter for those around you (or watching on live streams and videos).
The aluminium hub on the back accepts 50.8 quick release fittings for your wheel base, with an adaptor for 70mm bolt patterns available on request. Or if you’re planning on adding it to a Logitech G27/G29 or Thrustmaster base, then Rexing will supply a free 3D printed adapter.
It’s compatible with all the sim racing titles you’d expect, including iRacing, RaceRoom, rFactor 2, Assetto Corsa Competizione, F1 2019, and also Euro Truck Simulator 2. Ultimate Game Tech support for Automobilista and ATS is apparently in development at the moment.
The Rexing Carbon Fibre GT Steering Wheel comes with a high quality USB cable, and will require one socket free on your PC to work. And with a non-proprietary connector, you can replace it or make your own cable as needed in the future, which is a nice touch.
So if you’re currently tempted to buy one, there are a couple of more details you’ll need to know. It isn’t compatible with the PS4 or Xbox One, and delivery will take between 1-5 weeks after you’ve paid for your order. And it will cost you €1,549.00.
That’s a hefty investment in your sim racing hobby (or profession), but it’s worth remembering that these are hand-made full carbon fibre wheels. And Rexing do offer the ability to fit different electronics and various custom options for parts or full wheels. So if you have the money, you can have a completely unique sim racing creation made just for you.
