After some teasers were shared, we’ve finally seen DIRT 5 announced by Codemasters as the new release for the series due in October 2020. And it will be coming to the PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Plus the Google Stadia in early 2021 as well.
It’s developed by a separate team from those working on DiRT Rally, which suggests Codemasters is taking a similar approach to Forza (for example) and splitting out the serious rally sim and the fun off-road driving.
So with DIRT 5 announced by Codemasters, what has been revealed? Well apparently, “DIRT 5 is more than relentless rallying, more than suspension-shaking jumps, more than hairpins and handbrakes. Join an energised world of off-road racing, and be part of a vibe that delivers big on epic action, pure expression, and unbridled style.”
What that means is a Career Mode with narration led by Troy Baker and Nolan North, and including Youtube car channel Donut Media, in which you can choose your path around the world, and through various traditional race events and innovative modes, including one that will be completely new to the DIRT series.
More than 70 different routes will be included with locations including the frozen East River in New Tork, marble mines in Italy, and the Favelas of Brazil. Norway and China are also revealed by the file names of the screenshots released by Codemasters.
Cars already confirmed for the game include the Ariel Nomad, the Lancia Stratos and the Citroen C3 R5, and all of them will be editable through the livery editor. Also clearly visible in the video and screens available are a Ford Mustang, a Ford Escort rS Cosworth, and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. And there’s a dedicated photo mode to capture your creations.
Also confirmed is up to four player split-screen for the career and offline modes. And obviously there will be online multiplayer of some description.
There’s a roadmap for more information, with June covering the Career, July apparently being Features, a mystery reveal for August, September covering Multiplayer and Online, and October being the launch.
And you’ve played any previous DiRT game on Steam, you get a 10% discount when you pre-order DIRT 5.
Two versions will be available, with the DIRT 5 launch edition, and the DIRT 5 Amplified Edition. Pre-order the Amplified edition to get access to the game 3 days earlier, three cars (the Ariel Nomad Tactical, Audi TT Safari and VW Beetle Rallycross), and three new player sponsors with ‘fresh objectives, rewards and liveries’, boosts to currency and XP earnings, plus access to every post launch DLC content which will have a minimum of 12 cars, 60 career events, new player sponsors and more.
