The combination of the practical and bizarre continues as the new My Summer Car update brings drag racing against AI drivers into the game.
That’s one of the more notable additions, along with a bug fix for ‘house pee stains appearing when not urinating at home’. Because if you’re not familiar with the game, released on Steam Early Access back in 2016, it’s a car building, driving and survival simulator which puts you as a teenager in 1990s rural Finland.
Developed by Amistech, the game website itself is worth checking out if you miss the likes of Myspace and Geocities. And sets the tone for a game in which you need to literally build a car from the ground up in a detailed and accurate fashion, but also risk permadeath if you’re not eating, drinking, showering, and putting all the mechanical parts together correctly.
And at the same time you can get drunk, go strawberry picking, play slot machines, and earn some money collecting sewage. Which you can then use to order parts from a 90’s Finnish car mail order store. And they’ll be part of more than one hundred bits you’ll need to put together correctly. It’s a certain type of gamer who will love My Summer Car, but if that’s you, it may become an obsession.
