The Project CARS development team has given early notice of a forthcoming build of the game. No release date has yet been announced for any hardware platform but ahead of an emerging date, we can share the huge list of revisions.
True to that ‘huge’ hint, they’re comprehensive to say the least!
Project Cars: All-Formats Patch V1.4 Incoming Release Notes
General Changes
- Pagani Monza Club Day invitational event: Eliminated Project CARS crashing when using a specific livery on the Pagani Huayra
- PC: Fixed an issue that would cause a game crash when shared memory is enabled and watching saved replays
- PS4: Anisotropic filtering has been increased to help reduce blurry textures
- PS4: Temporal anti-aliasing has been further optimised. This ghosting effect is reduced and further control is available via a slider
Performance Improvements
- Xbox One: Various optimisations (leading to an average 5-6% performance improvement)
- PS4: All shaders have been rebuilt using a new shader compiler, bringing a significant performance increase in some areas
- PS4: CPU performance gains due to more aggressive code optimisations
Physics & AI
- Loss of grip that results from tyre wear is now more noticeable in AI cars
- The AI will now show much more realistic grip loss when running on slick tyres in the rain
- First-pass improvements at various tracks to enhance the AI performance and ability (Azure Circuit, Donington GP, Watkins Glen, Bathurst, Nordschleife)
Pitting, Tuning & Set-up
- Fixed an issue where certain street cars would pit to change of tyres during rain despite already having the correct tyres
- Fixed an issue where custom vehicle set-ups were lost when advancing through the sessions
- Improved automated tyre selection for having the most appropriate tyres based on current and predicted weather conditions
- Ensured that the AI always pit when they need to change tyres based on the weather conditions
- The default strategy will now correctly show the tyres that will be fitted on the player vehicle during a pit stop
- The pit stop routine will no longer start during on-line races until the player closes the pit stop menu. This ensures that the player has enough time to select or configure an appropriate set of actions before the pit crew start working on the car
- Tyre pressures will now be correctly set when the player changes to a new set of tyres
- The currently active pit strategy will now remain in action when moving through race sessions
On-line
- Fixed an issue where the player was sometimes given a large time penalty when exiting the pit lane
- Fixed incorrect remaining session time in the Tuning screen
- Fixed an issue that could prevent a player from entering a race after joining a second on-line lobby
- Fixed occasional pop-up of the Track Location element
- PS4: The lobby browser now displays random lobbies instead of always the oldest lobbies
- PS4: Fixed a problem where network features could not be used after resuming from Rest mode
- PC: The lobby browser now automatically extends the search distance for lobbies when too few are found using the default filter. Lobbies that are hosted further away (and therefore have potentially worse latency to all peers) appear at the bottom of the browser. Lobbies are now colour-coded with yellow or orange icons to indicate the quality of the connection
- PC: The session host now regularly sets the current time-stamp into a session attribute, so that sessions with old time-stamps are no longer displayed in the browser. This prevents stale sessions with no active host from appearing in the session browser
- PC: When joining a session, the client now attempts to request the member details multiple times before giving up. This helps to improve the success rate of joining on-line sessions
- Xbox One: Fixed matchmaking, where the race length was not being correctly filtered
Controls (All Formats)
- Fixed pedals and triggers that vibrate during replays
- Fixed an issue that caused the wheel centring spring to be active during driving
- Improved force feedback strength and tweaked the default force feedback parameters for all supported wheels (based on community feedback)
- Further enhancements to the steering feedback output via improved blending between the tyre force spring and the steering lock spring
- Improved behaviour of the wheel force springs while navigating the menu system
Controls (PlayStation 4/PS4)
- Fixed a bug where the player became stuck on the Career screen when entering a driver name using a wheel controller
- Improved functionality for several older Fanatec wheels (including the GT2, GT3 and CSR)
- Fixed the Fanatec CSS so that it works correctly in Sequential Mode
- Fanatec ClubSport Pedal calibration is now saved correctly if the player has calibrated only the pedals
- Fixed ABS rumble for the Fanatec ClubSport Pedals
- Fix for the Fanatec ClubSport Handbrake
- Game Pad: Tilt Control support added for steering
Vehicles
- Adjusted handbrake strength on vehicles which are equipped with handbrakes
- Rain wiper state now correctly resets when restarting a session
- Fixed light glows from a vehicle behind the player that would sometimes appear in front of the player
- Fuel pressure gauge calibration corrected in several cars
- Eliminated a white ‘bounding box’ that would sometimes appear around brake light glow
- Ford Mk.IV: Improved the collision model to prevent wedging underneath other cars
- Fixed incorrect livery display at selection for Formula Gulf, Gumpert Apollo and Formula Rookie
- Lykan Hypersport statistics updated to latest manufacturer specification
- Lotus 72D: Improved the handing characteristics, exposed bump stop adjustment in the set-up menu, reduced cold sensitivities of the Slick tyres, adjusted the AI speed, tyre wear and Rain tyres usage to match the player’s experience
- Karts: Reworked the Kart optimisation to help address performance drops with many karts on the track
- McLaren 12C GT3: Adjusted the stance of the vehicle to more closely match the real car
- BMW M3 GT4: Improved the accuracy of the points at which the oil and water temperature warning lights will activate
- Ford Escort RS1600: Improved the collision and wheel contact model to prevent climbing over other cars in collisions
- 250cc Superkart: Improved the AI handling and revised the default set-up to address control issues on higher speed tracks
- Lotus 49: Improved the AI handling of the vehicle in corners and during close racing
- Pagani Huayra: Improved engine cooling to prevent overheating and reduced fuel consumption to around 3mpg during hard track use
Tracks
- Bathurst: Removed cones in the pit lane that could cause cars to become stuck in that area
- Watkins Glen: Fixed a number of accuracy issues around the track
- Le Mans 24H: Improved the racing line at a few corners to keep the LMP cars off the kerbs (which had been causing the cars to lean over onto two wheels)
- Silverstone National: Placement of the cars on the grid has been re-worked to more closely align with the painted ‘Start’ boxes
- Hockenheim (various layouts): Re-worked the wet weather reflection mapping to address incorrect object reflections
- Willow Springs: Fixed an issue where the vehicle could drive through the barriers when exiting the pits
Interface
- Driver Network Profile: Visual tidy-up to improve usability
- Fixed an issue where very thin lines would not always appear
- Added support for better information display on the Community Events page
- Fixed the occurence of HUD customisation not being saved on exiting a session
- Fixed an issue where the Potential Lap Time display on the Lap Info board wouldn’t match the displayed sector times
- Monitor/Spectator Mode: Fixed an issue where the vehicle being viewed would automatically reset to the player’s vehicle on leaving the monitor screen
Should you encounter further problems, it’s worth spending a few minutes on the Project CARS forum to see if they have already been reported or describe them so that the dev team can try to replicate and fix any issues. A great deal of player feedback has been noted and work is still ongoing, so fear not if a fix or modification isn’t yet included within this change list!
Report links, status and temporary workarounds can be found at each of these format-specific pages on the PCARS forum: PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
