Assetto Corsa is coming to consoles in 2016, with Kunos Simulazioni working with 505 Games. The console version will include more than 100 cars, including the Team Lotus 98T, Pagania Zona R, Ferrari LeFerrari, Mercedes C9 and McLaren MP4-12C GT3.
It will also include more than 20 different track layouts, including usual suspects like Silverstone, Spa, Monza and the Nurburgring, but what we’re interested in seeing in more detail are the single and multi-player modes, plus the AI and how many cars can compete in a race (Up to 24 in the PC version). Apparently new PC content will also be revealed at E3. Meanwhile 505 Games have been involved in a huge range of titles from in-depth shooter Arma to their rather meagre racing output – 4×4 Hummer, Days of Thunder: NASCAR Edition, Wrecked: Revenge Revisted, and Face Racers: Photo Finish making up their driving output so far. Oh and the Tamsoft titles Car Racing Challenge, Motorbike King and Taxi Rider.
But if the combined talents can translate the best aspects of Assetto Corsa to consoles, then Forza and Project CARS will have a major challenger arriving on track.
It’s going to be fascinating to see how it all plays out – and how it impacts the eSports side of organised online console racing.
